Provide our clients with high quality valuation, advice and negotiation services

Who we are

The HMRC Valuation Office is the UK public sector’s property valuation experts and advisers, and our vision is to be a world-leading provider of public sector valuations. The work we do is vital to the collection of over £60 billion of revenue which goes back into communities and affects every citizen and every business across England and Wales.

The Role

When you join us in this important role your primary focus will be on the delivery of valuation work and the provision of advice and negotiation services to clients involving compensation. Responsible for managing a diverse client base while providing technical advice and support to the team, you’ll also have the opportunity to use your extensive experience of compulsory purchase casework as you deal with a large and complex portfolio of work.

Providing leadership and support to your colleagues, you’ll have responsibility for client and contract management, identify any risks or issues that arise, and make recommendations on necessary actions. Committed to maintaining an advanced level of valuation surveying knowledge and managing our engagement with stakeholders, you’ll ensure awareness of the wider political, economic, social, technical, environmental and legislative agendas that impact our work.  You should also be ready to act as an expert witness before arbitrators, independent experts and Lands Tribunals.

About you

To be a success in this role you should possess advanced technical surveying knowledge with a strong understanding of the transport sector and flood prevention. An experienced project manager with strong leadership skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, you should be MRICS or FRICS qualified and eligible to join the RICS Valuer Registration Scheme. It’s also important that you possess an advanced level of technical knowledge, including the application of relevant legislation, case law, codes of practice and professional RICS standards.

We’ll expect you to have a strong understanding of the transport sector in Scotland and the ability to build trusted and credible relationships with everyone you work with. An inspirational leader and communicator with good knowledge of the links to other work areas and the external business environment, you should also be capable of coaching, supporting and providing feedback to your colleagues. And as your work will involve travelling to visit sites and clients across Scotland, you should hold a full UK Driving Licence.

Your benefits

Join us and you’ll enjoy a wide range of benefits. These include superb training and development opportunities, membership of the generous Civil Service pension scheme, and family friendly work policies. We’re committed to ensuring that everyone who works for us has the opportunity to take advantage of a healthy work/life balance, and with this in mind we also offer flexible working arrangements. We also run a Disability Confident Scheme for candidates with disabilities who meet the minimum selection criteria.
