Project Leaders – Strategic Estates

If you have post-qualification experience of managing external consultants and contractors in occupied buildings or a construction environment and are keen to work on truly diverse and interesting projects, the House of Commons Strategic Estates Project Delivery team has the ideal opportunity.

Acting on behalf of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, our Strategic Estates team deals with all major investment property related matters. And what an estate it is, with property and engineering infrastructures consisting of buildings that range from the historic Palace of Westminster to the modern Portcullis House. This is your opportunity to join a Project Delivery team that’s growing fast and responsible for a truly wide variety of refurbishment, conservation and construction related projects.

Your challenge? To perform the “informed client” role on behalf of the Project Owner or Project Board by proactively leading on the delivery of estate wide property, building refurbishment and conservation projects and managing external consultants. A great opportunity to gain exposure to a diverse and exciting range of projects, typically ranging between £5m and £50m, we’ll rely on you to meet the needs of internal teams in the Commons and the Lords. Reporting on progress to all interested parties, including project boards, clients and stakeholders alike will be important to, as will helping our Senior Project Leaders and Assistant Directors develop new programmes of work for clients within both Houses.

Customer focused and familiar with the scheduling process, you’re adept at applying project planning principles and techniques such as Gantt charts too. What’s more, you have a track record of agreeing robust project briefs and taking them from inception through to project delivery on time and to budget and agreed quality standards. A good understanding of the application of health and safety issues is important too, as is evidence of having successfully procured consultants and contractors in the past and managed them in line with the agreed terms of appointment/form of contract. Analytically astute, collating financial and other information from a range of sources, examining it and drawing conclusions to inform value for money business cases comes naturally to you. And, when you need to explain complex information in an easy to understand way to the project owner, again, you excel.

In addition to an attractive salary, the benefits package include an attractive pension scheme,  the possibility of flexible working, while annual leave entitlement starts at 30 days per year and increases to 35. There are also subsidised canteens and a gym on-site and a season ticket loan scheme is available.

Closing date: 11 March 2018.
