Our client one of the World's most influential research institutions have appointed M&C exclusively to help recruit their new exciting position of Deputy Director - Estates Services.

You will be joining an organisation the has grown significantly over the years, so much so that the role has moved out of London to larger premises. This is a significant role within the structure of the business and we are looking to attract interested individuals looking for an exciting challenge coupled with career progression.

The purpose of the position is to plan and ensure the continuous, cost-effective and safe provision of the required accommodation and infrastructure, including its maintenance. You will lead a team of Project Managers and engineers whilst collaborating with key stakeholders.

In conjunction with the Director you will formulate and propose strategies for the development of the Institute's physical resources, including policies for leasing or owning property, the capacity of the Institute to expand and the effect of such expansion on the infrastructure. Strategies to include those for Estates, Maintenance and Energy.

In conjunction with all stakeholders you will be in charge of the delivery of the large scale building works that are about to take place, this falls within the context of major and minor capital projects. This will also include: Risk Management and proactive leadership of external professional design teams and allocation of internal resources to support the delivery of the projects; provision and presentation of monthly progress reports to Investments Committee, Programme Board, and Research Directorate as required to report on cost, quality, programme and to identify any risks; monitoring performance of the design team and controlling/leading the design output against agreed Brief; undertaking mitigation action in the case of poor performance and if necessary seek and recruit alternative designers and to lead the selection of procurement routes and tender lists for capital projects and making recommendations to the governance committees.

You will ideally hold a professional building related qualification such as CIOB, RICS. Significant relevant experience is required of large capital new build, refurbishment and maintenance projects. Working knowledge of estate management including acquisitions, disposals would be desirable along with knowledge in mechanical and electrical services. You will be a leader of people and understand what is required to lead a high performing professional technical team.
