Your polished CV has got you an interview with your dream job. But that’s just the first step. Here are our top five tips on making the right impression in an interview

1. Study the company

Carry out some research into the company. The interviewer will expect you to know about them and it will demonstrate some initiative. It will also enable you to put together a list of questions for your interview. Really examine why you would like to work for this company the interviewer will quiz you on this.


2. Practice standard questions

Prepare and practice answers to standard interview questions. Such as why you have applied for this job, how your skills could be used in this role and practice how you would describe your working life to date to an interviewer.


3. Lists are good

Make a list of your skills, achievements, strengths and weaknesses so that you are not taken by surprise. Write down how even the weaknesses could benefit a job.


4. Remain positive

Always remain positive and enthusiastic on interview. Even if you do not like the sound of the job, they may be able to offer you an alternative role if they like you enough!


5. Dress for the job and be polite

Be smart and wear suit if possible. Be confident in your manner - smile, shake hands firmly, have good eye contact. Remain bright, bubbly and confident throughout the interview and don’t forget to ask questions.


Finally .. after the interview, again shake hands firmly, smile. Thank them for seeing you at the end of the interview.
